Ask HN: Scanslop.com on Reddit a Privacy Nightmare?
1 point by znpy 29 days ago | hide | past | favorite
Hello!

On one of the subreddits i comment on i was recently asked to verify i'm not an AI agent through scanslop.com, by having to complete a challenge through an url like this: https://scanslop.com/c/<some_id_code>

I completed the challenge but only after i realized that i was effectively directed to an external website (not controlled by reddit) with an URL that is essentially an identifier for a comment i just left.

Btw, the comment where i was asked to complete the challenge was removed immediately after the challenge was completed.

As scanslop has a reference to my comment (with my username) and a request from my browser, this means that scanslop can essentially associate reddit usernames with ip addresses.

Did anyone else notice this, am i the only one that has noticed the privacy nightmare this is ?
