The biggest problem with "safe deposit boxes" is that they aren't safe.

You can only access the box when the Bank says you can. In other words, the Banks owns the box, you don't. And if the Bank declines to help you open the box it's just 'tough titties' for you. And if the Bank decides that they aren't going to give you access, or the Bank is told by some other entity not you give you access then you can whistle all you like.

It's that old saying once again: "If you can't hold it it in your hot little hand, or touch it then it isn't under your control. If it's not under your control, then it's not yours at all."
