This is perfect! I've boycotting any official broadcasts. I want this WC to be a disaster(it has been the whole time, but I want the Qatari state and FIFA to feel it), but I still vaguely care about the results.

I'm relaying a German live ticker to a private chat group (family/friends) created for that reason. While at it, I started replacing common terminology with silly words because I'm still a child on the inside I guess. Makes for some hilarious phrases.

Have I missed something? What’s wrong with this WC?

The stadiums are built by what is essentially slave labour. The choice of Qatar was obviously a result of corruption in the first place as it's not even a suitable location. That's why it's in November instead of the summer, which has completely disrupted the club season by compressing it, causing a fuckton of injuries in the busiest leagues.

It's a complete shitshow any way you look at it.

All of the above combined with the fact that it has just led to some truly terrible football.

The international version of the sport is always 5-10 years, tactically, behind the club game, but the week or so most of the big teams have had to truly prepare compared to the usual 3, has ensured almost every team is playing in the same basic style and that the best players are, if not injured, then just exhausted from the hectic season.

Also it's so hot that there are 5 subs per game, which has led to 9+ minutes of stoppage time in most games, pretty bizarre. Iran just scored 2 goals in the 99th and 100th minute to win.

I don’t necessarily mind the extended stoppage time, it’s actually something I’ve believed would benefit the game for a long time. I’m glad to see it trialled in a populist tournament that should lead to lasting changes in the more interesting competitions.

Is there not a financial incentive to perform? This is how American sports keep the All-Star games competitive.

The financial incentives in national football are peanuts compared to high level club football, so not really.

- The WC is primarily a football tournament. Qatar is a country where it's too hot to play football even in the winter. They had to add ACs to the Stadiums so it's somewhat tolerable (not a joke).

- Because it's so hot in Qatar the WC was moved to the winter. This breaks the long standing tradition of doing the WC in the summer.

- In many countries where people actually care about the WC it's cold and rainy in winter. Traditions such watching the WC outside with family and friends obviously cannot exist this time around.

- There is zero football history or tradition in Qatar. Nobody there actually cares about football. Why do the WC there?

- It is very obvious that the only reason why we have a WC in Qatar is corruption. Corrupt people in the FIFA and in western goverments and willingness to bribe and do everything imaginable to get the WC from the Qatari government.

- Qatar now has 8 large and very modern football stadiums in the radius of 50km but the entire country only has less than 3 million people. For camparison London has three times the population but not as many comparable stadiums eventhough London can be considered the world capital of football. Those stadiums will most likely not be really used after the WC.

- It is a known fact that thousands of migrant workers had to die in order for those stadiums to be built.

- Fans are not allowed to wear pride flag colors. Players are not allowed to armbands with pride flag colors because the Qatari government doesn't like it.

1. This is one of that ways to get more people interested in football. Majority of the population is in south asia and chinela, Quatar is quite close and this wc is very accessible for us

2. Why world cup is held in summer? Is it because Europe is cold in winter and Europeans prefer summer. Unfortunately world is not just Europe. Since this is WORLD cup why should it not be held in seasons that is suited where it is hosted?

3.Same as above. Football is popular across world.

4. May be this is to get football more popular in middle East. Why only conduct where it is popular now. Let's conduct where more young people are present.

5. Corruption in FIFA is not new. This is not specific to this world cup.

6. So what. May be Quatar is trying to be a sports destination of MENA. It's their money. Let them spend it the way they want.

7. So has a large number of people died in making the phones, clothes, chocolates, diamond, cofee or anything in Modern world. Do you stop using phones and clothes because of that?

I come from Kerala in india where a large population emigrate to Arab countries including Quatar. Heck even my uncle was there at some point. People go to these places because they pay well. May be not as much as western world would like, but much more than we make here. So i don't give too much importance to the stories about slave labour and everything.

8. Are you coming to watch football or to promote pride culture?

The world cup is held in the summer because that's when no other football is going on. It's that simple. Moving the WC to november not only ruins the WC, but ruins the entire rest of the football season. And even doing it in November it's just too hot.

Let the people around world conduct it when it's suitable to them

Yes it's hot in quatar. So is the whole MENA. Don't they deserve to see football?

Let Europe do it in summer when it's suitable there. Let quatar do it in winter when it's suitable there..

This is the closest and most accesible football worldcup to 1 billion people in India. I am thankful to FIFA for conducting this in Quatar

Or we could have just had the WC I India. Would have been way cooler.

- Thousands of workers have died in the building process. I mean really FIFA?

- The cost of the carnival is over 200 billion usd (compare it for 0.5 billion in US 1994)

- Sexual minorities are persecuted in Qatar and FIFA completely downplays this, making the whole organization look ridiculously corrupt.

That should give you a headstart.

Of the actual app/site: Thanks, bookmarked! I also want to see the scores, but dont want anything else to do with this sh*tshow.

What is your problem with quatar spending their money?

The problem is that the Qatari state uses its blood money to buy publicity for itself and improve the optics of their slavestate by arranging lavish sports arrangements to project an air of wealth and prosperity when in fact it's nothing but a slavery powered kleptocracy.

I wonder how you could possibly be ok with this. Are you some kind of libertarian?

The money with Quatar is not blood money. It's just money from selling natural gas. Just like norway got it's pension fund.

And how is quatar a slavery. Are they slaves just because they are a monarchy?

Yes quatar is a monarchy and they behave like dictators. But so is Russia where sports competitions are held. So is china where olympicis was held.

Even the prosperity of Europe is made on the back of colonialism.

So is London which is the place where all the criminals from around world move their money into.

So i Switzerland which has a reputation of storing black money.

So is France which still leech Money from Africa.

1. Do you plan to not use petroleum and natural gas which comes mostly from MENA and Russia

2. DO you plan to not use phones made in china which is a dictatorship

If a married woman gets raped in Qatar, she cannot report it to police, as that would lead to her getting the death penalty for adultery. That country is absolutely fucking horrible. Like, even places ad bad as India where men regularly attack women with acid pale in comparison.

So what is the problem? Is it slavery? Is it that quatar is hot? Is it that quatar doesn't like LGBTQ?

Why new reasons come up in every comment rather than any justification for the parent comment at all?

Are you going to watch football or to marry someone?

And should you boycott US also where random people kill innocent children regularly for no reason?

From this discussions in this thread atleast the problem with quatar is nothing of what is mentioned. Westerners can't accept that a nation culturally so different from theris can host an important tournament. They can't accept that people's have different priorities different cultures and different way of looking at life. They can't accept that about 2 billion people of the world are having the most accesible world cup.

In short, they can't accept that world doesent exist just for westerners. Since they can't tell that openly due to being called out for racism, they come up with these reasons..

You are the one who is trying to turn around the discussion all the time. So give me some straight answers:

You think punishing a woman for getting raped is acceptable?

You think punishing someone for being homosexual is acceptable?

You think treating workers building the Worldcup facilities like slaves by working them to death is acceptable?

Please give me straight yes/no answers to those. No more hand-wavy BS and then stating how accessible the Worldcup now is.

It's mind-bending how you can turn around and call criticizing these things a proxy for racism, or that it's just cultural difference.

> And should you boycott US also where random people kill innocent children regularly for no reason?

You're already admitting here how different it is. You say random people, and that's what it is. Individual people or a group of people misbehaving, acting against the law which can and does get prosecuted. Not always unfortunately, and there are systematic problems that need to be addressed, but unlike Qatar's many crimes against humanity, they are not institutionalized and written in law. Again, the West is by far not perfect, but compared to these kind of countries, we've come a very long way.

Am not telling that is acceptable. Am just telling that this is a football World Cup. Not a a cultural world cup.

And any nation including European who has hosted it has done similar bad things in past. So are why outage only now?

Us went ahead and killed thousands of women and children in Iraq. So do you boycott sports in US.

UK still white washes colonialism in Schools. They have not apologized for jalianwalabagh massacre. Do you boycott them.

France still leeches money from poor countries in Africa. Do you boycott them.

And finally quatar and saudi uses slave labour and treats homosexuals badly. Do you boycott petroleum and natural gas.

Then why only boycott world cup in quatar

Many mobiles and textile manufacturing is with slave labour. So is chocolates and cofee. You consume them. So what's new about quatar.

Yes for me accesibility is important. Because my friends can watch it without spending a year of their earnings. If you can conduct World cups in uk is or France or Russia, then you can conduct in quatar too. Regards of openions reeking in hypocrisy and racism

Well, i certainly cannot address every single wrongdoing in existence, as a single person I cannot save the world through boycotts, obviously. But yes, I do call out the kinds of things you mention. I get into arguments with people who are unaware or ignorant to the wrongdoings of the west or their country in particular, and claim the west is perfect today. It's not. But it has come a very long way in the past century. I try to buy fair trade goods where possible, even if it's sometimes more than double the price. Did I travel to San Fernando to verify my coffee really comes from farmers that get treated fair? Of course not. I boycott all brands that advertise using the Qatar world cup. I boycott Nestlé. I'm trying to do the right thing without dedicating my life to it. So don't call me a hypocrite to deflect from the fact that you're putting your desire for an accessible world cup over basic human rights issues with the hosting country.
