It's kind of true, but every situation is different. I'm in a smaller city, not on the coast, and I'm doing ok. It's definitely more challenging in some ways. I make it through doing great work and networking. It's taken me a while but I'm building up a network and now I've got more opportunities available. YMMV, I know everyone has a different experience.
