I guess a company can coast on reputation for a while, before things come crashing down at least at parts of the company.

Could be they are actually not doing so well and try to cover it up with the usual AI is god excuses, to fool investors.

I hope this bubble bursts soon. HR people avoiding to do their actual job seems like it is the modus operandi in the majority of businesses these days.

Not the GP, but I think the reason is, that right now it's super hard to get a new job, because of so many things, but mostly, because of AI craze and tanking economies. Bridging that time with a degree is not the worst idea, if you can afford it.

Exactly right. Also, since this person works in the United States, it will make it easier to get re-employed because you will have the university degree. I know HN really dislikes the economic/skill signalling around university degrees in the United States, but it hard to avoid/ignore.

Well, in many layers of overhead in companies people operate at the level of high schoolers, so it is no surprise unfortunately, that the output comes across like that too.

RSS feeds broken, player broken, buffering broken, idiotic ads if you don't uBlock Origin the hell out of it ... I think the only thing they didn't yet ruin-bloat is content, because that's created by other people, but those people are also producing tons of trash and AI generated crap, so content is also broken. It is up to the visitor to filter out trash and find the few good contents amidst all the rubble. If today a competitor managed to gain significant amount of quality content and the ability to also deliver that content, YouTube would pretty soon be out of business, I think.

And when it goes wrong, production is down, until they can get a real devops to look at what shit the AI-only guys did wrong. Haha, no serious shop would act like that, but then again most shops are not serious, now are they? So you might have a point.

This. I feel like we are wasting tons of human potential due to ageism and not finding good ways for letting experience trickle down.
