Apple/iMessage/Safari

Google/Android/Chrome/YouTube

Meta/Messenger/Facebook/WhatsApp

...just to name a few.

You don’t need to use any of Facebook’s other platforms to use WhatsApp. I’ve not had a Facebook account for nigh on a decade but use WhatsApp as my main messaging app.

I don't know if Safari is that important to Apple. I have the enhanced data security feature of iCloud turned on, and I can still access my stuff in Chrome on the iCloud web interface (via the auth flow on my phone). It's actually exceedingly well-thought out and a nice bone to throw to Windows users that otherwise use Apple stuff! They could have been Safari-only or Mac-only, but aren't, even for super niche features.

I’m curious if you have a source for that? There has been lots of speculation on how much X traffic has reduced, but the best data I can find basically says that it might’ve dropped from the 2nd most visited website to the 5th most visited website in the world (according to SimilarWeb).

The numbers I see are declines in traffic of 15-20% with ad revenue declines of more than 50%.

I think for many sites this would be pretty horrible. I feel like the bar for X is that it still runs.

I believe this also inspired mtrek, which was an implementation played over telnet.

I’m sure you didn’t mean it, but in the English language “Pollak” and its variations are derogatory terms for people of Polish descent. The preferred term is “Pole.”

I also came here to say this. Thank you! It’s a slur and not everyone seems to realize that…

Because it isn't a slur in all English speaking cultures.

There are also many students who have phones in high school and graduate valedictorian, so I’m not sure we can draw any conclusions.

Quality measurements and citation needed.

When I was buying a Tesla with autopilot back in 2015, the salesperson was telling me that autopilot would become FSD with only software updates. Honestly, it felt more like poor training of salespeople rather than outright fraud because the marketing material said different.

I can confirm I’ve received a check for $0.01 from the IRS. My understanding is it was because of miscalculation of interest owed.

You assume that most people who want to invest even understand what SPY is, what a proper allocation looks like between stocks and bonds, what tax-loss harvesting or rebalancing is, etc. For those folks, robo-advisors provide a huge value-add in making it really simple to invest responsibly. If they were to do it on their own, they probably wouldn't know where to begin.

The kind of person who is using a robo adviser will probably know what SPY is, and even if they don’t that’s the purpose of my post.

I’ve yet to see evidence that any actively managed fund, including robo advisers, outperform SPY on a risk adjusted and fee adjusted basis.

It is easy for SpaceX to create a shell company that circumvents this.

I don't think that's true.

Many aspects of SpaceX's rockets are covered by ITAR, which puts strict regulations and controls on the exports of many aspects of SpaceX's vehicles.

I imagine exporting the rocket to a non-US based firm would be a much larger bureaucratic hurdle than getting FAA approvals.

ITAR is largely voluntary. I say this having looked at the regulations because at one time I wanted to produce/was producing things that fell under ITAR. In a lot of situations if you say it is not restricted by ITAR then it is not.

This leaves me (and hopefully you) wondering what ITAR actually still accomplishes. I guess federal contracts dictate the use of the ensuing technology? I still see issues with that depending on how IP rights are assigned.

I guess we're waiting on the next PGP-style test of export control laws.

“Breached” seems like a strong word: “ LinkedIn tells Bloomberg in a statement that it looked into the matter and found that the data was web scraped public information from its site and other platforms.”

So they scraped a bunch of websites including LinkedIn and created a joint dataset?
