2 y.o model is probably 100x cheaper, but model size and requirements are also growing proportionally.

2 years ago, thinking was an optional, nowadays people use Opus with high effort almost by default.

Original author here. I have a Raspberry Pi, but I still recommend the CH347 instead of the Pi since it's $5 on AliExpress and you can buy it at the same time as the pogo pins probe, which you need. The advantage of the CH347 is that you don't need to fiddle around with the pinout and risk frying the chip if you screw up. You can just plug the probe in (via the level shifter) and you are good to go.

Also, if you are doing the Raspberry Pi, you'd still need the level shifter since the Pi is a 3.3 V device.


Why a spare machine has to be exactly a mac ? For iMessage?


New macs share memory between the cpu and the GPU so the GPU gets a lot of ram for a low cost (relative to everything else available right now.)


Completely irrelevant for Claude Code? You can use literally the weakest PC you have and run Linux and use that for Claude Code.

hm.. has been quite a while for me. The good thing about the Tang Nano is that it is supported by the Yosys open source toolchain. There are quite a few resources on the web when you search for the combination.
