New studies show that research is a leading cause of cancer in rats.

On a serious note: Humans are considered an oncogenic species. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41559-018-0558-7

I suspect a major problem is the quality and consistency of the propellant and getting a symmetric burn.

Cheap systems are certainly a game changer, but I don't think they completely deprecate high performance, high end systems like this. Cheap drones by definition lack powerful long range sensor suites and associated power systems, because such a package would mean they'd no longer be cheap. They have limited range, are slower, and are less able to react dynamically to a changing combat situation.

I can see a system like this acting as the sensor and control node for a flight of cheaper drones. We've had cruise missiles for many decades now, and they're drastically more capable than cheap drones, but they didn't deprecate manned fighters. Something like this might.

It’s tricky. It started out by disassembling the commercial binaries. There may not be any original code left, but it’s certainly not a clean room project.

They are supporting and encouraging Russia’s war against Ukraine. They also provide diplomatic cover and economic support for the Iranian regime. They promote nationalist radicalism and harassment of nonconformists on foreign campuses. They ruthlessly suppress dissent, or even just non Han ethic identity and implement racist eugenic policies in their regions.

The comment you replied to referred to Taiwan as existing alongside China as a country. That’s a crime in mainland China.

> They also provide diplomatic cover and economic support for the Iranian regime

I can't believe some people can still argue in good faith the US and israel are the good guys, do you have a ounce of self reflection? You kidnap presidents, kill entire families of political leaders, talk about them like they are dogs (see the latest white house propaganda videos or Hegseth speeches), and then you come here to argue China is bad because they may one day plan to do something similar, how blind are you? Everything you accuse the others of planning you already have done it or are actively doing it right now...

I didn’t say anything about anyone being the good guys.

I didn’t say anything about what China is planning, I pointed out things they are doing right now.

The Usa does similar things across the world. Here I swapped for the Usa.

> They are supporting and encouraging Israel’s war against Iran and Palestine. They also provide diplomatic cover and economic support for the Israeli regime. They promote nationalist radicalism and harassment of nonconformists on foreign campuses (Columbia protests). They ruthlessly suppress dissent (you must support the troops, using chemical weapons on protestors), or even just non White ethic identity and implement racist policies in their regions (rounding up immigrants without due process).

I think there’s a very great difference in degree, but sure. Especially under this administration.

If the options are play it on a Neo or not play it at all? (Well, for several years, I suppose waiting until you have a beefier machine is an option)

I take it's repairability slightly differently. That's because it is highly modular, and I think the reason for that is longevity. They put a lot of engineering effort into this thing, and so at this price point that has to pay back over a lot of devices over a long period. This design isn't going to change for many years, but the internals will iterate independently.

I’d disable major OS updates and stay on Tahoe, and only upgrade if other Neo owners report it’s ok to do so. Ive been burned by iOS updates that made the phone sluggish enough times.

Not necessarily a reason to avoid the Neo, for the right use case. If I had secondary school kids they’d get one of these, but something to bear in mind.

The Neo actually has similar dimensions to the 12” overall, though not as tapered. That’s possible because it has a much slimmer bezel. The Neo is about a third heavier though.

If you account for the taper, the Neo has about 50% more volume than the 12”

I sometimes travel with backpack only (cheap European airlines) and that is a big difference.

You do get a keyboard that you can actually use though :)

Very true. In a way this is demonstrating the tradeoff between cost, repairability and size/weight.

The Neo is getting a lot of praise because it's all modular and screwed together. That should make it very easy to repair and also for Apple to do iterative upgrades, but that makes it bigger and heavier and size/weight does matter to people. Hence this thread.

I'd say the analogy is a closed door.

It's not that it's impossible to go through it, but you have to do something specific in order to do so beyond just trying to go through, or you're going to walk straight into getting a bloodey nose.

But yeah, these ships weren't anywhere near the strait.
