>America is a hostile nation, who has sought to align everyone with its interests, under a false pretense of mutual benefit, while instead its tech sector has caused much harm at a global scale. America is now doubling down on value extraction, at an obvious expense to everyone else.

In India, recently, a bill was passed that can permit banks and the government to add charges on UPI transactions. UPI is one of the biggest digital payment systems in the world, and it was free until now. Insider information from multiple news sources suggests that this was done because of pressure from the US.

Sounds bogus, there's free payment services in the US as well, that's nothing special. What makes more sense in the India context is low value of volume per customer where even the minimal operating costs are difficult to cover. I say that from some amount of experience in the micro-finance world, where even money provided at zero actual interest in terms of the loaned money itself still ended up having to have somewhat painful interest rates just to cover true costs in low income countries.

I do not know a single free payment service in the US outside Zelle and that is not really comparable to India's UPI.

Are you saying that there are services in the US that I can use to accept payments as easily as a credit card with no fees on me as a merchant?

UPI costs about $500 million per year to the Indian government while having a transaction volume of $3.4 trillion per year. That is < 0.001 % of the transaction volume.

I am not going to claim there is no subsidization to the cost to the government by the banks as they get to keep control over the flow of money and that might change in the future but for now the costs to the government vs benefit to the Indian economy is fairly clear to me.

Just the 18% GST returns on the 2.5% extra the merchants would receive when a user pays with UPI over VISA would more than make up for the cost to the government. Not to mention all the cash income that was impossible to track before is now tracked under UPI.

Our org account's bill is showing up as > 100 trillion.

You've got to grab a screenshot of that.

Judging from what I am reading about PIX capabilities, UPI can do everything. It can also allow you to make merchant payments from Rupay credit cards. It also supports automatic recurring payments.

Looks to be working back again.

It was happening for a few seconds, It's back up now

People started posting about it on X approximately 30 minutes ago: https://x.com/Woitot01/status/2054056571492278729

Given it is a distributed system, it probably was down for some people longer than it was for others

EDIT: It seems to be intermittent; it started working again for me, then stopped again

The data gathering method is 1.1.1.1 Cloudflare DNS resolver. It won't have the information about people who use any other DNS.

No i meant when you change country on top of cloudflare report, it comes up like 6th and 7th for most of countries i selected, but it comes to 2nd place suddenly when you select world.

Yeah, a more meaningful study next would be the market share of DNS resolvers.

Not every metric published here can be used, because the observers are from the PoV of Cloudflare and cloudflare alone.

Hello,

Do you provide remote opportunities / Visa sponsorship?

I have installed Zorin on my parent's 10 year old computer. They use it for browsing the internet and some video calls. Zorin works like a charm, and they have not had any major issues.

On the other hand, Serie A started streaming all matches free on YouTube for SEA countries.

They pulled the plug on the project almost right away. Apparently, it had something to do with YouTube not being able to limit the live stream to Southeast Asian countries without it leaking to the rest of the world—where you’d need a pricey subscription to watch the game.

Oh, I didn't know that they pulled the plug.

So only a VPN is needed?

the theory was that YT has pretty good VPN detection. But they stopped doing it immediately, so probably that didn't work out.

It takes some practice, but not as much as you’d think. I learned this serve last year at a somewhat intermediate level. It took me about two weeks of practice to hit it consistently. Now I hit it clean about 50 to 60% of the time.
