We should all be using more of those shady services - provided they aren't scams. Those are valuable people providing a valuable service of bypassing enshittification.
This. A good platform isn't about just having people you like on and creating an echo chamber through speech controls. Places that are like that feel downright dystopian.

Musk is the same guy he was 10 years ago, still working his ass off on visionary projects, beating rest of the world on those fronts. And we love him for that!
The thing is, it's difficult to tell what his opinions actually are when he's so committed to trolling and being crude. Even if you sussed them all out and agreed with them, he wouldn't be someone you'd want to emulate, just on the basis that he has a hard time articulating anything consistently. If it's the crudeness that you love, then I guess the opinions themselves take a back seat. But at that point you're just cheering for an agent of chaos, rather than having a consistent set of beliefs of your own.
That's.... convenient. No need to interrogate the stated reasons why someone you admire is not universally and uncritically beloved. I'll just ignore the reasons they themselves repeatedly give and instead assume they actually hate how correct he is about everything. Despite the things he was famously wrong about like COVID cases in 2020 going to 0 in a matter of weeks.

Having to know like 5 keybinds and no taskbar is absolutely the point and it's a beautiful concept of how to use your computer. And it works, if you are open to relearning just a bit.
Actually we do. I like pacman for example. And don't mind going thru archinstall for a test install once to learn. But my workstation, I'd not like to have to develop, even if I do like configuring minimal installs for other uses like kiosks.
It might be a mistake but not a serious one, like it's a common setting they had on for convenience of development without being too insecure, but forgot to leave it out of public release.
So there's nothing weird. It being on originally was intentional and not crazy. Only it going all they way wasn't.
Overly active analytics / tracing stuff is not uncommon during dev. Likely they just did it to be able to debug things better in the weirdest cases; doing a full session replay basically when you have the whole original state of the repo
I don't see a responsible disclosure timeline, putting doubt on the black/greyhat hacker, but am not surprised this was patched post-haste, unlike some less caring operations.
In any case, another reason to upgrade to Quattro! I just hope my 30€ Chromebook can handle it as well as it handled 3.
