What Svelte used to be pre version 5 I think? They now also have a runtime with hooks, etc

The core selling point with Svelte (as I understood it anyway) was that it was a framework that compiles itself away, leaving you with a very small final JS bundle. The changes in 5 make some things more explicit/verbose but I think that core intent is still the same.

Svelte did always have a runtime, they're still doing this from what I understand the major part of Svelte 5 was moving to signals.

I remember them advertising Svelte as the framework that disappears in build time.

He'll probably get it. He shouldn't, but he likely will.

Did he pay the bribe?

It's more profitable to eliminate employee costs than make new products. There's a reason layoffs make stock prices soar far more than product announcements.

Depends on which company you are, if Nvidia announced a layoff US stock market will collapse. If Microsoft did, then they will be lauded.

Layoffs aren't indicators of success or failure, just some theoretical tea leaf reading style signal for future profits of a company. So if a company is already growing unbelievably fast layoffs are a bad sign, if a company is slowing in growth apparently having employees on business units not working out is equally a bad sign.

And for many companies these layoffs are the modern version of Roman public executions with the audience(investors) cheering it on.

it is somewhat sad that a company already profitable would devote it's time and energy and profits to becoming more profitable instead of doing cool shit. doing cool shit always seems to be a better idea than anything else when one has profit.

No, we won't do the same, but enough people will that it doesn't matter. Such is the way it goes.

Yeah. Her kids will be fine with generational wealth. Everyone else's - not so much.

This is the problem in a nutshell - people are happy to do things they know are harmful for personal profit.

And who knows how much of that "unavoidable future" "adapt or die" rhetoric is driven by motivated actors using LLM tools to shape the conversation?

The incentives are clearly that way. Otherwise, why would random people care if other developers fell hopelessly behind? It would only increase the high status of the AI experts.

FWIW I do think most of it is "grassroots," ordinary rank-and-file STEM workers adopting zero-sum industrialist mindsets. And speaking personally, the psychology works the same way for both sides of the AI debate:

- I have refused to use LLMs since 2023, when I caught ChatGPT stealing 200 lines of my own 2019-era F#. So in 2026 I have some anxiety that I need to practice AI-assisted development or else Be Left Behind. This makes me especially cross and uncharitable when speaking with AI boosters.

- Instead of LLMs I have tripled-down on improving my own code quality and CS fundamentals. I imagine a lot of AI boosters are somewhat anxious that LLM skills will become dime-a-dozen in a few years, and people whose organic brains actually understand computers will be highly in-demand. So they probably have the same thing going on as me - "nuh uh you're wrong and stupid."

I hope it's clear I'm trying to be charitable!

Clearly not a bubble, though!

I tried suggesting this on a different forum and wow, did I get slapped down.

At least I'm sure LLM tools deploying code to production won't result in this happening more frequently. "Make sure it's secure. Make no mistakes."

"You were right, mistakes have been made!"

And you have evidence as basis for this very confident statement... where?

Intuition. It comes from the spiritual awakening and being aware of your consciousness. Only Time will prove what turns out be right.

You worship the AI?

I see AI has great utility and we'll figure out ways to better it. If I had any power, i would run Nuclear Power plants to run AI dafacenters and find other near infinite sources of energy to create deeper and deeper AIs. This level of ai tech is at its infancy, it's evidently clear. People are assuming it will stall soon, and won't go beyond a certain point. I don't believe this at all, I am believing it will go much much fatherer then this

An LLM is never, ever going to find "other near infinite sources of energy". All it can do is predict the next word in an effort to make the user stop prompting it. That's all it does. It does not have the ability to find solutions to the worlds problems.

> That ship left port like 30 years ago dude. Laborers have no power in the 21st century.

Maybe we should fix that.

Less maybe: more should have yesterday. Do so now today.
